  • Is therapy for me?
We are going to do our best to help you find a way to answer this question for yourself. In order for us to help you answer this question, we'd like to first address a common misconception about therapy - you must be 'sick', 'disturbed', or 'messed up' to seek help. That is just not true. Although there are therapists that work with people who suffer from severe mental health issues, most people that seek out therapy are needing some help addressing every day life challenges and transitions. If you are interested in gaining a better understanding of yourself, increase overall satisfaction in life, or you are feeling stuck in a particular area of your life, therapy may be what you need. Most of the clients we work with are well-adjusted, smart and successful people needing some help through the messier parts of being human. If you find that you can relate to this, or struggling with mental health related issues, we'd encourage you do seek out support.
  • How do I schedule an appointment?
If you decide you'd like to schedule an intake session, our Practice Manager, Ashley, will schedule this with you over the phone or via email. We do my best to get you in as soon as possible. Depending on the flexibility of your schedule, we may get you in within a week. Sometimes it can be upwards of a few weeks. You will then receive an email from us with the documents to fill out before our first session. This email will take you to the client portal where you will be given a login and password. This is the place you will enter in your demographic information, payment information, insurance information, answer intake questions and sign all consent documents. You will then receive a reminder 24 hours before our first session, so long as you opt in to receive those reminders. You can choose text or email to receive those notifications.
  • What can I expect from the first session?
The first session will be a combination of getting to know each other and beginning a line of questioning and conversation around what your current challenges are and what you hope to gain from therapy. Your therapist will tell you a bit about themselves and what you can expect from therapy and invite you to ask any questions or voice any concerns. From there, you're invited to tell more about what you are facing. The conversations are confidential and you will have the space to speak openly without judgement or criticism. Sometimes, homework is assigned. Some examples of homework include having a difficult conversation that you'll be coached through, creating a self care routine that fits you, creating an online dating profile, reading a book, or journaling. Towards the end of the session, you will receive initial observations and a plan of frequency of visits to help address the goals you've named. Your therapist will check in with you about how you felt the session went and if you are interested in rescheduling.
